That’s the 15th task of the “Journal for Self-Exploration” by Meera Lee Patel. You’re supposed to make two lists. One with your passions, and one with those of your goals that encompass those passions.

SWYA #13 & #14
The thirteenth task was to fill the outlines of the tigers with three of my biggest fears, and to colour them until I couldn’t see the fears anymore.
I think that’s actually a problematic exercise.
Ignoring my fears won’t make them go away. Pretending I can’t see the monster under the bed won’t make the monster go away. If anything, denial makes fears worse and gives them more power over me.

SWYA #12
The twelfth task of “Start Where You Are – A Journal for Self-Exploration” was “Circle the things you worship most. Then underline the things you’d rather worship.” as the heading for a page full of words written in different colours and styles.
I guess you’re all used to me starting my SWYA posts with ruminations and explanations and interpretations. It’s no different today.

SWYA #11
I’ve spent a lot of time evading the next part of my “Start Where You Are” series (which I still haven’t transferred to my new blog *sigh*).
Thank you for your answers to the question that constitutes this new task of SWYA. I really appreciated every single comment and found them very helpful!
So:
What gives me light?
I want to understand this question in a spiritual way. I want to answer with something that gives me hope and strength and courage.
Unfortunately, I can’t.
So what gives me light?
The string of Moroccan lights over my beanbag. The Turkish pumpkin lamp on my bookshelf. The seaweed candle holder on the other bookshelf. The little indoor fireplace made of glass and stones in the living room.
Where am I looking for light?
On walks. When I’m cuddling my cats. On Talkspace (the online therapy I’m doing). With this series of posts. Reading Brené Brown’s “Rising Strong” (highly recommended). When I’m baking scones. With the Unitarian Universalists of “Quest for Meaning” and their offers for worship and meditation. Reading. A lot. Even comments. (Sometimes I get lucky.) In my dreams. In bubble baths. In music. In writing.
I’m trying.
I really am.

SWYA #10
throw your dreams into space like a kite, and you do not know what it will bring back: a new life, a new friend, a new love, a new country.
(anaïs nin)
The tenth task of “Start Where You Are” is accompanied by that quote, which happens to be one of my favourite quotes ever. Dreaming bravely is such a big thing for me. And having an open heart and an open mind. Essential ingredients for an authentic life.
Anyway, the the tenth task is:
Write down your favorite, most daring dream on a spare piece of paper. Fold it up and put it inside a glass bottle. Throw it into the sea.
Ah, the practical problems of SWYA…
I’m far, far away from any ocean. The nearest body of water is our big lake, which is not very big at all.
Also, tossing bottles into the lake is generally frowned upon here. Not just because littering is bad per se, but because bottles can break, and then people or dogs can step on shards…
In other words, I had to come up with a different solution for this task.
As a compromise I ended up folding a paper plane and writing my wish on the inside. Then I took my plane to the lake and threw my dream into space. It promptly did a nosedive into the water a few feet away from the shore.
Oh well.
But I’ve accomplished the tenth task!
